Blue and white transfer ware sauce dish (bowl) from Wood and Sons in England. Dish has blue and white reverse print scrolling thistle design around rim. Distinctive Wood and Sons floral arrangement with angular garden wall motif in reserve of bowl. Makers mark identifes style as Wincanton from Wood and Sons, England, a firm active in Staffordshire from 1865-2005 with mark dating from after 1907.

Archival collection containing the entirety of Charles Lorenz's research on the history of the Saugatuck-Douglas area. There are 24 boxes of materials that include notes, photocopies, manuscripts, books, photos, and a card catalog. The majority of this material was used for his manuscripts for his self-published book and an unpublished paper: The Early History of Saugatuck and Singapore, Michigan 1830-1840 (published) and The Early History of the Black Lake Region 1835-1850 (unpublished). Alongside his research, Lorenz also kept materials related to the various community organizations and projects that he was involved in, inlcuding: the Saugatuck Douglas Historical Society, Project Lakewell, Bed and Breakfast organization, etc. There are also 3 pieces of artwork included with the materials. The art consists of 2 ink on paper drawings and one watercolor. All 3 contain scences from the Saugatuck area and have been included in the art collection rather than the archival collection. 24 boxes-research and personal materials 1 shelving unit of a card catalog containing 11,000 cards.

These documents contain handwritten notes and photocopies of documents pertaining to the early settlers of the Saugatuck-Douglas area. Prominent figures such as William Gay Butler and O.R Johnson are mentioned. Lorenz did a lot of research on the early settlers and gathered what information he could on them. This includes birth and death records, marriage licenses, land purchases, etc. There is one box of these documents that contain copies of the diaries of Reverend George N. Smith and Alvira Powers Smith. The remaining boxes contain individual folders on each person that Lorenz research, which are organized alphabetically. The amount of information for each person varies, but typically contains a short biography and maybe a photo if there was one available. 3 boxes (boxes 9, 10 and 11) early settlers of the Saugatuck-Douglas area (1 box contains diaries of the Smiths, 2 boxes containing information on individual settlers.)

Documents that pertain to significant locations or towns in the Saugatuck-Douglas area. This includes information on the plat of Saugatuck, Singapore, Douglas, Dudleyville, etc. There is also information on important locations within the towns, including historic buildings like the Lakeshore Manor and parks like Kalamazoo Harbor. These documents consist of handwritten notes and photcopies that Lorenz had made from various sources. He used copies of land sales in the county, marriages, which are arranged by county, and census for several towns that are arranged by year for his research. Another notable item in this series is the folder titled "Building Lists." This folder contains lists and maps detailing the locations of building in Saugatuck. In a personal notebook, Lorenz made maps of sections of the town and would then identify the location of certain buildings, both old and modern. The materials are arranged alphabetically by location name. 1 box-research on significant towns/locations

Documents that pertain to the history of the town of Singapore. This series mainly consists of notes that are either handwritten by Lorenz or are photocopies that he made of pages from various books and articles. There is a copy of "Singapore: The Buried City" by Kit Lane as well as a copy of "Singing Sands" by Lorene Pacey. There is information on the layout of the town, including several maps, businesses that were run there, important figures in the town, the bank, and various articles about Singapore. Lorenz also included photocopies of Singapore bills.

Contains brochures for the City of Douglas cruiseship and the S.S Keewatin Maritime Museum. There are also two postcards associated with the S.S Keewatin. Each of these items were used for promotional purposes. There is also a 1974 copy of Kit Lane's book "Singapore: The Buried City." The Singapore book can be found in Box 39 Singapore The other materials are in Box 5 Nautical History
