About the Event
Cost: $100
High on a wooded dune overlooking the Kalamazoo in an area known as Riverside Heights, sits an unusual yet authentic example of the Saugatuck “summer culture” of the 1920s. The Scott Jordan Family of Chicago built Tonawanda in 1927 as a summer retreat and took its name from the Iroquois word for swift water. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the house and enjoy its magnificent river views. The home was designed by renowned architect Florence “Danny” Hunn, who is featured in the SDHC’s HerStory exhibition.
The History Center “On Location” series invites attendees to gather in unique spaces and places for an exclusive view of the area’s historical richness. This evening series pairs wine and refreshments with an informal and engaging history tour. Join us on select Thursdays this spring from March, April, to May to (re)discover historic cottages, businesses, and institutions across the Lakeshore area.
