SDHC Executive Director Eric Gollannek will talk about the history and mystery of Singapore, the town that now lies buried beneath the sand dunes of the Lake Michigan shoreline at the mouth of the Kalamazoo River. Founded in 1836 by New York land speculator Oshea Wilder, at its peak, the town was more successful than neighboring Saugatuck but rapidly declined for both ecological and financial reasons and was uninhabited by 1878.
