Standard Oil Station to Douglas Fire Hall clippings
Archive
Photocopy of a typewritten note, a newspaper article and a photo that describe how the Standard Oil filling station on the SW corner of Spring and Center Streets was sold by Willard Prentice to the City of Douglas to become the Douglas Fire Hall. Mr. Prentice notes that the property was part of the Putnam estate.
A handwriting note dates the newspaper clipping as from September 12, 1968 and mentions Harry Koster & Van Eck Construction. Prior to the Fire Hall's construction, fire equipment was stored in the basement of the Douglas Masonic Temple and the Village Hall.
Site is likely 47 W. Center Street that houses the Douglas Police Station in 2022.
