Landscape of river scene and trees in background. A rowboat in the middle ground. Likely dunes in background. The painting of a river and trees on the reverse side was probably executed in the 1880s.
Evidence of signature in lower right corner, but partially concealed under frame.
George O. Cairns signature and name engraved on reverse of slate.
