The river is busily trafficked by sailboats, schooners, steam ships and the side paddle wheeler "Comet" pulling a raft of logs. On the bare bank in the foreground, two pairs of well-dressed men and even a dog gaze at the prosperity and industry of the scene. "Saugatuck" was printed as part of the etching but a hand wrote "in 1864" under the illustration.
