Saugatuck in 1864
Photograph
Photograph of an etching that depicts Saugatuck as seen from the opposite bank of the Kalamazoo River. The far river bank and hill beyond is dotted with houses. The river is busily trafficked by sailboats, schooners, steam ships and the side paddle wheeler "Comet" pulling a raft of logs. On the bare bank in the foreground, two pairs of well-dressed men and even a dog gaze at the prosperity and industry of the scene.
"Saugatuck" was printed as part of the etching but a hand wrote "in 1864" under the illustration.
