Gotham Lifebuoy

Flotation device from the Gotham, a fishing tug that sank the night of December 11, 1943. The ring-shaped life preserver is made of cork and wrapped in white-painted canvas. A rope is attached to the ring in four places with additional strips of canvas. "Gotham" and "Saugatuck" are hand painted on the ring with black paint.

Five people, Lewis Gotham, Sam Gotham, Fred Gotham, F. Harley Jones and 15-year-old Billy Jones perished when the Gotham went down at the narrow mouth of the Kalamazoo River.
