Paul Henry de Kruif (rhymes with "life") (1890–1971) was an American microbiologist and author of Dutch descent. Publishing as Paul de Kruif, he is most noted for his 1926 book, "Microbe Hunters." This book was a bestseller for a lengthy period after publication and remained high on lists of recommended reading for aspiring physicians and scientists. Dr. de Kruif was born in Zeeland, Michigan and lived on the lake shore in Laketown Township. According to Mary Voss, the table was given to the Saugatuck Library by the de Kruif family. When the library had no more room for the table, it was given to the the SDHS.
