Net Reel and Buoys Model
Model
Miniature wooden model of a gill net drying reel. A separate green-painted wooden base has two uprights that support the reel spindle. The non-painted portions of the reel are stained brown. The net is very accurately and finely crafted with knotted threads to form the netting and thicker strings to form the meter ropes, complete with wooden floats or spherical metal weights.
Model includes four red gill net buoys. The buoys are made of wood, red paint, metal wire and fabric. The fabric flags are faded and frayed. Two of the buoys are on display in an inkwell on a window sill at the Demerest Shanty. Two buoys are kept with the net reel in the SDHC archive.
