An ink blotter from the Saugatuck Lumber & Coal Co which is 6.3 in long by 3.5 in wide. The back has a blue blotting paper and the front has a colored image of a home with the company's name printed underneath and a white border around the edges. There are also the words, "Creo-Dipt Stained Shingles STAINED UNDER PRESSURE" printed in a square in the upper left corner of the image. On the right hand side of the front there is more print which reads, "CREO-DIPTS Stay Colorful Longer Because they are Stained and Preserved by a Patented Pressure Process."Also, in the bottom left corner of the white border there is "Litho In USA 29148" printed in very small letters. The blotter belonged to Jan Upton's aunt who passed away, which is how the item came into her possession. The age is unknown, but the company was in business from 1920-1960 and the style is consistent with other creo-dipt ads from the 1920s.

The ink blotter is actually in very good condition with only a moderate amount of deterioration. This is present as fading color on the printed image, as well as the blue blotting paper. The white border has a moderate amount of dirt on it and there is a crease in the bottom right corner of the back of the piece. There are also a few visible stains on the back as well, which may be from ink but this is unconfirmed. All deterioration is most likely due to age and handling.
