Camp Oak Openings brochure
2023.50.91
The camp, for young ladies, existed from the 1920s until after World War II along the Kalamazoo River, just off the Old Dug Road, a site previously occupied by Slumber Bluff Resort and later the home of Pine Trail Camp. Horseback riding was an important part of the camp’s activities, watched over by an old Germany army cavalry officer [Mr. Zeiser]. The finer points were not overlooked and local boys tell about climbing trees to spy on the formal Sunday dinners which featured not only candlelight, but white gloves.
